Best. Bossforlyfe • 2 yr. ago. I usually become a vassal as soon as possible to get the free village then stack up money and units to take a castle and start my own faction, so you should be fine joining as a vassal where your at. Dry_Mirror_ • 2 yr. ago. Ok👌🏻.
Become a Mercenary or Vassal. (150 renown), you can become a vassal instead of only a mercenary. Unlike previous Mount & Blade games, you can thoroughly influence how a kingdom operates.
It seems you first need to be a mercenary for your faction first, which is unique to Viking Conquest. You can become a mercenary by asking all the current vassals of the faction for a task till one of them gives you the mercenary task. From there you should be able to ask the king for vassalage. Three best ways of making money early I have found: 1) Trading. Check the factions on the outskirt of the map (everyone but Khergits and Swadia essentially) and access the trade. Don't start trading until you find a profit of 200 denars or higher. This is a slow, but effective way to gain money quickly.

Mercenary Captain . On random occasions, asking for a task from someone when you are not part of a faction will make the quest giver offer you a mercenary contract. The contract will run for three months, and after that you can extend it on a monthly basis. Your wages vary depending on the quantity and quality of your troops.
